Meet Alison of The Monarch Mag, Our V Shape Fall Stylesmith
Posted on September 23 2016
Do we have a girl crush on Alison of The Monarch Mag? Heck yeah! Alison hosted our very first Sip & Click when we launched Smithery and this dynamo is back with us again as a V Shape Fall Stylesmith.
The Monarch Mag is a sweet collection of moments from her life and a wonderful source of what's what in the Toronto community. As a former art gallery owner and curator, you can feel her natural talent at bringing together unique brands, collaborations and content.
Her insta feed is alive with the adventures of being a mother of 2 and as Smithery co-founder Mavis starts her own chapter in motherhood, we wanted to gobble up as much mama expertise as we could. Alison shared with us the beautiful insight that her children have taught her to be more mindful, to slow down and to appreciate the little things in life. Thanks for the inspiration, Mama xo
One of the other reasons we were so pumped to have Alison model with us is because it allowed us to showcase the two types of V Shape bodies. One is the traditional V Shape (represented by our mama Sunshine) and one is more elongated, like Alison. Through our styling consults, we've been meeting a lot of elongated V Shapes and wanted to be able to do a feature on her best cuts.
Here's the scoop - because this body shape has a smaller chest, she can bend the rules of a traditional V Shape. Wide leg pants, white denim, patterned skirts and asymmetrical shoulder lines are still a definite DO. But she can also wear higher necklines and pattern on the upper body.
Alison's own 'mom' uniform is a white tee, denim, leather jacket and big purse. Here's a round up of Alison's shoot looks, all inspired by her classic cool taste.
The cozy Edwin Cardi was a piece she took home with her.
The Raw Hem Denim skirt was a piece Alison said she could see herself wearing all the time!
A v-neck and strong central vertical seam in this vegan suede dress are V Shape gold.
A higher neckline in this Kate dress looks killer on Alison's elongated V Shape frame. A long pendant necklace is the way to go with accessories (versus a shorter statement necklace for example).
We asked each model what surprised them most about the shoot day. Alison's answer was how easy it was! We weren't surprised at all. We knew this hot mama would be a natural.
